287 of Edward Harris of Queen Ann's County Humbly Sheweth That a Certain George Copper in Kent County was Indebted and Did without any trouble pay to your petitioner five hundred pounds of Tobacco Cheif part of which s.d five hundred pounds of Tob.o was Due to your petitioner for fees as Cryer of y.e Assize the other part was Due to your petitioner on matter of Contract for Services Done for the afd Copper And by his Request in writeing off two Coppys of one Indictment and Contriveing one of s.d Copys to M.r John Johnson Attry in Kent County and y.e other to M.r Jam.s Earle Att.ry in Queen Ann's Co.ty &c.a However the Sumes Charged for writeing and Sending the two Coppys as afd / is Cloathed and or a Disguize / and by an Information Called Extortion Your petitioner hopes that your Hon.r went in the least Be apprehensive or think that your favouring of him / in Ordering the prosecution afd to be Stop'd / will in any Sort make him headless or Guilty of any indiscreation for y.e future but Rather on encourage him to put in practice the Good Admonitions and Advice that Gentlemen of Merit has been so Good to bestow on him and further trusts in God and his Decorum will always be So Near the Rules of Morality as will Happyly find y.e Success of falling under your Hon.rs Good Esteem with Some other unparalell'd worthy and Good Gent. &c.a Your pet.r hopes that when the premisses is Considered by your Hon.r that yo.r Hon.r will Act like your Self there in with Compassion and pitty Mercy before Sacrafice and Ease your petitioner as farr as to Justice appurtaines and your petitioner for yo.r Hon.rs Good Success Shall ever pray &c.a June 15.th 1727 On the Back of y.e preceeding petition was as foll.s viz.t In Consideration of y.e premisses for as much by what appears to me the petitioner Did not Intend any Extortion I order a Nolle prosequi Cha: Calvert To Mich.l Howard Esq.r Attorney Gen.tl On y.e Worshipfull the Justices of Kent Co.ty Therefore it is Considered by the Court here viz y.e 20.th day of June Anno 1727 that on Rec.d of the Order afd from his Hon.r y.e Gov.r that all proceedings in the premisses afd cease and that the said Edw.d Harris go thereof without day but that he pay the fees thereon accruing &c.a John Fannen of Kent County planter Comes into Court and Assumes to pay all y.e Costs and officers fees that hath accrued on y.e premisses afd And thereupon the s.d Edward Harris is therefrom Acquitted Jam.s Smith Clk
