Kent County fs.t / The Jurors for the Right honourable the Lord propry
that now is for Kent County afd upon their Oath do present that Alice Brown
late of Shrewsbury parish in the County afd Spinster the tenth Day of March
Anno Dom ^one thousand^ seven hundred twenty and five at the parish afd in the County
afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court did Committ fornication with a
Certain person to the Jurors afd unknown and did permit the same unknown
person then & there to have Carnal knowledge of her body and to begett
then and there a bastard Child on the body of her the same Alice to the
high Displeasure of Almighty God to the Evill Example of all others in such
Case offending Contrary to the peace of the said Lord propry that now is
his good rule and Government ^&^ against the form of the Act of Assembly in
that Case made and provided

    On the back of the preceeding bill was Endorst as folls viz.t
            True bill Samuel Groome fforeman

    And the afd Alice in her proper person comes and saith that she
Cannot gainsay the Indictment afd so as afd against her brought nor but
that she is guilty of the premisses above upon her Imposed as by ^y.e^ afd Indictm.t
it is alledged and thereupon Submitts to the Court

    Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here this twenty first day of
March Anno Dom seventeen hundred twenty & Six that the afd Elice Brown
pay the sum of Six hundred pounds of Tobacco as a fine for her afd Offence
in Committing fornication in form afd Confest to be applyed for the use of
this County according to Act of Assembly &c.a as also y.e Sume of two hundred
and forty three                                pounds of Tobacco Costs accruing on the
premisses afd to the Officers of this Court

    The afd Alice ^Brown^ being Ordered to prove the begetter of her Child declares on
her Oath Adminestred to her on the Holy Evangilists of Almighty God that
William Coursey of Kent County planter is the father of her last base
born Child which she was delivered of

    Robert Brown of Kent County planter and present here in Court in
his proper person Assumes to pay the ffine and Officers ffees in the Judgm.t
afd Specefied amounting to Eight hundred & forty three pounds of Tob.o
And thereupon the said Alice Brown is therefrom acquitted
