199 to wit at Kent County afd the first Day of October Anno Domini Seventeen hundred and twenty at the parish afd in Kent County afd within the Jurisdiction of this Court Did Commit adultery with a Certain Elizabeth Paskell and then and there did begett a Bastard Child on the Body of her the same Elizabeth to the high Displeasure of Almighty God to the evill Example of all others in Such Case offending Contrary to the peace of the said Lord prop.ry that now is his Good Rule and Government and against the form of the Act of Assembly in Such Case made and provided Test Eliz.a Paskell T francis Cler. pac. On the Back of y.e preceeding Indictm.t was as foll viz.t A true bill p.r Sam.l Wickes foreman The s.d John Evans Produces to the Court the following petition and nolle prosequi which the Court allows of and orders to be Entered viz.t Maryland fs.t To Cha. Calvert Esq.r Govern.r of the Province of Maryland The Petit.n of John Evans of Kent County Humbly Sheweth that last March Court held for Kent County afd your petitioner upon the bare & Single testimony of a Certain Eliz.a Paskell a woman of very Ill fame and of most Diabolical Disposition / was Indicted by the Name of John Evans late of S.t pauls parish in the County afd Gentleman / for that he the same John then and yet haveing a Lawfull wife at the County afd the first Day of October Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred and twenty at the parish afd in the County afd and within the Jurisdiction of that Court Did Commit adultery with the Same Eliz.a and Did Beget on the body of her the Same Eliz.a a bastard Child Now so it is may it please your Hon.r the Same Eliz.a Some time in the Month of October last then being a Serv.t to yo.r Pet.r was Delivered of a Base born Child at the house of yo.r pet.r and in the time of her throws of traveill when it is Reasonable to believe y.e most wicked would if ever Declare nothing but the truth it being then required and Demanded of her by the women that were then Assembled to her aid & assistance Did Declare own and Acknowledge that a Certain W.m Humphrys was the Father and begetter of the Child She then was in pain & travill with And further ^She^ the Same Eliz.a being afterward Examined & Sworn before M.r Simon Wilmer one of the Justices of to wit on y.e Eleventh Day of Nov.r next Ensueing y.e Month of Octob.r afd y.e the time of her Delivery as afd / when the Same Justice of peace as |
