178                               June Court 1726

that John Clove of Saint pauls parish in the County afd Labourer
the fifth day of Aprill Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred and twenty
five at the parish afd in the County afd within the Jurisdiction of this
Court in and upon a Certain James Moore in the peace of God and of
the s.d Lord prop.ry then and there being with force and Arms an Assault
Did make and him the s.d James Moore then and there Did Beat wound
and Evilly treat so that of his life it was much Dispaired and other
harms to him then and there Did to the Great Damage of y.e said James
Moore and against the peace of the s.d Lord prop.ry that now is his
good Rule and Dignity &c.a                    T francis Cler. pac.

    On the Back of y.e preceeding Indictment was as foll.s viz.t
A true Bill p.r Sam.l Wickes foreman

    And the afd John Clove in his proper person Comes and Saith that
he is in no Sort Guilty of the premisses above upon him Imposed as
by the afd Indictment it is alledged and thereof he putteth himself
upon the Country                John Clove in p.a psona


    And now here afterwards to wit the twenty first Day of June Anno Dom.
1726 Comes into Court the afd John Clove with protestation of his Inocency
and Relinquishes the plea afd, and because he will not Content w.th
his Lordship Submitts to the Court Therefore it is Considered by
the Justices here this twenty first Day of June Anno Dom. Seventeen
hundred and twenty Six that the afd John Clove pay the Sume
of two Shillings and Six pence Current money of Maryland as a fine
for his afd offence of Committing an Assault and Batery also it is
Considered that he pay the Sume of three hundred and Eighty Eight
pounds of Tobacco Costs accrueing on the premisses afd to the officers
