115 of all others in Such Case offending Contrary to the peace of the s.d Lord prop.ry that now is his good Rule and Government and against the form of the Act of Assembly in Such Case made and provided &c.a
On the Back of the preceeding Indictment was Endorst as foll.s viz.t A True bill by W.m Crowe foreman of the Grand Jury And the afd Sarah Sellwood in her proper person Comes and Saith that She Cannot gainsay the Indictment afd So as afd against her brought nor but that She is guilty of the premisses above upon her Imposed as by the afd Indictment it is alledged and Thereupon Submits to the Court ^& y.e s.d Sarah being desired to prove y.e begetter upon her Oath Says y.e Tho.s Foster is begetter of her last base born Child^ Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here to wit at the Court house in the Town of Chester in s.d County this Nineteenth Day of November Anno Dom. Seventeen hund.d and twenty five that the afd Sarah Sellwood Receive at the publick whipping post fifteen Lashes well laid on her bare back till the blood appears and also that She the s.d Sarah pay the Sume of two hundred and Eighty ^three^ pounds of Tobacco Costs Accrueing on the premises afd to the officers of this Court Jam.s Smith Clk Ordered that the Sherf of Kent County Carry the afd Sarah Sellwood to the publick whipping post and there Execute the Lashes in the Judgment afd mentioned and then bring her into Court again of which s.d precept the s.d Sherf makes Return to wit the Day and year afd that he hath Executed the s.d Judgment and also hath here the s.d Sarah Sellwood before the Court Ordered that the afd Sarah Sellwood pay the Sume of four hundred pounds of Tob.o to Edward Cussens for Maintaining her Child ^with^ trouble & Disgrace of his Family in bringing her to bed D.r Richard Simonds Comes into Court and assumes to pay the Sume of twelve hundred & Seventeen Tobacco for which the said Sarah promises to Serve him or his assignes the Space of three years from this psent also y.e s.d Richard is to Maintain her afd Child Dureing her Service Negroe Jacob belonging to Richard Bennet Esq.r Sworn and Sent as an Evid.c to the Grand Jury |
