CHAPTER 285.

CHAP. 286.

An act supplemental to an act, entitled, "an act to provide
for electing Commissioners for Baltimore County, and
prescribing their powers and duties."

Passed Mar. 22, 1833

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the person who shall have received the highest number of

in which two commissioners shall have been chosen, shall
be entitled to serve three years, and the other only the re-
sidue of the term that had been vacated by death, resigna-
tion, refusal, or neglect to qualify, removal, or expiration
of an appointment; and if at any time it shall become ne-
cessary to elect three commissioners, the person -who shall
have received the highest number of votes shall be entitled
to serve three years, the next highest two years, and the
next one year; and if an equal number of votes shall be
given to two or more persons, one of whom would other-
wise have been elected, the judges of the election shall,
in that event, determine the election between those per-
sons by lot, and certify said proceeding in their return of
such election.

CHAPTER 286.


A Supplement to an act, entitled, an act respecting Public
Notaries in this State, passed November session, eighteen
hundred and one, chapter eighty-six.

Passed Mar 23, 1833

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That every notary public commissioned under authority of
this State, shall have the power and authority to adminis-
ter oaths and affirmations according to law, in all matters
and cases of a civil nature, in which a justice of the peace
may administer such oaths or affirmations, and with the
same legal effect and validity; and a certificate under the
notarial seal of any notary public shall be sufficient evi-
dence of his having administered such oath or affirmation
in his official capacity as a notary public.
