CHAPTER 287.
An act supplemental to an act for the establishment and sup-
port of Public Free Schools in the First Election Dis-
trict in Baltimore County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners of Public Free Schools
in the first election district of Baltimore county, may from
time to time negotiate, for the use of said Schools, at a
rate of interest not exceeding six per centum per annum,
a loan or loans, for a sum or sums of money, redeemable
out of, and in the aggregate not greater than the amount
of the school tax, which they may have levied or shall levy
in any year, for the use aforesaid; or the said commission-
ers may negotiate, for the use of said schools, and within

the said rate of interest, a loan or loans, for a sum or sums
of money, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of
one year's school tax, to enable them to discharge present
claims against said commissioners, and satisfy accruing
demands as they may arise; and the said commissioners

Provide for pay-
ment of interest
|
may and shall provide for the payment of Hie interest of
the said money quarterly, and the repayment of the principal,
in not less than five, nor more than ten, equal annual instal-
ments, by levying from year to year, within said district,
conformably to the rate prescribed for the usual school tax,
such additional tax, as shall be necessary for the purposes
last mentioned.

May enforce col-
lections

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the payment of any
tax levied, or which shall be levied, for the use of said
schools, may be enforced in the manner provided for the
collection of other taxes; and the said commissioners shall

be entitled to demand and receive such portion of the
school funds heretofore paid by the Treasurer of the West-
ern Shore, to the commissioners of Baltimore county, as
was allotted to the use of said election district, and has
not yet been expended; and a just proportion of the school
funds that may hereafter be paid by said treasurer, to said

Proviso
|
county commissioners; Provided, that the said school
commissioners of the first election district as aforesaid,
shall first settle such account as may appear to be justly
due to the commissioners of Baltimore county for addi-
tional duties imposed on them, and furnishing stationery,
transcribing, &c.
