CHAP. 245.

money as they may deem necessary to be levied by instal-
ments of one two and three years. And it shall be in-
cumbent upon said commissioners to proceed to the dis-
charge of the various duties imposed by this act, as soon
as the public convenience, in their judgment, will permit.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, .That after the erection of
said Alms-house, and the same shall have been prepared
ever they may deem it just, those indigent persons who
receive pensions by county assessment, to relinquish the
same, and repair to the protection which may be afforded

by the Alms-house, hereby intended to be established, and
if such persons when so required shall refuse or neglect to
comply, they shall be debarred such pensions by county as-

An additional supplement to the act, entitled, An act to pro-
vide for the making the several Turnpike Roads, and for
the extension of the Charters of the several Bunks therein
mentioned, passed at December session, eighteen hundred
and twenty-seven, chapter forty -two.

Preamble
|
WHEREAS, It is represented to this General Assembly,
that great injury is likely to result to the Banks, and indi-
vidual stockholders, who have Subscribed for stock under
the act to which this is a supplement, by reason of rapid tra-
veling over the bridges which they have erected over the Mo-
nocacy, and by reason of persons improperly and fraudu-
lently avoiding the gate erected upon their road, and there-
by greatly lessening the amount of their toll — Therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That if after the passage of this act, any person
or persons whatsoever, riding in, or driving any sulkey,
chair, or chaise, phaeton, cart, waggon, sleigh, sled, or any
other carriage of burthen or pleasure, riding or leading any
horse, mare, or gelding, shall therewith go upon, or cause
to go upon, or pass over the bridge, which the said Banks,
and other stockholders have erected over the Monocacy, at

a more rapid gait than a walk; or if any person, riding in,
or driving any of the vehicles aforementioned, or any other
carriage of any description whatsoever, or riding, or lead-
ing any horse, mare, or gelding, or driving hogs, sheep, or
