declared to be a body politic and corporate, by the name,
style, and title of the General Insurance Company of Ma-
7ryland, and by the same name shall have perpetual succes-
sion, and shall be able to sue and be sued, plead and be
impleaded, in all courts of law and equity in this State and
elsewhere, and to make and have a common seal, and the
same to break, alter and renew at their pleasure; to ordain
and establish such by-laws, ordinances, and regulations,
and generally to do every act and thing necessary to carry
into effect this act, or to promote the object and design of
this Corporation.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the capital stock of the
said Company shall be three hundred thousand dollars, to

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That subscription books may
be opened as is hereinafter provided, at the places herein-
after named, under the direction of the persons appointed
by this act, for the purpose of receiving subscriptions, or

for Baltimore City and County, under the direction of Luke
Tiernan, Reverdy Johnson, Hugh McElderry, James Har-
wood, Beale Randall, and Andrew Aldridge; at Cumber-
land, for Allegany county, under the direction of William
McMahon, Bene S. Pigman, and George McCulloch; at
Hagerstown, for Washington county, under the direction of
John Buchanan, David G. Gost, and William Price; at An-
napolis, for Anne Arundel county, under the direction of
Henry Harwood, George Mackubin, and John Johnson;
at Frederick, for Frederick county, under the direction of
William Ross, Casper Mantz, and William M. Beall; at
Belle-Air, for Harford county, under the direction of Ste-
venson Archer, John Forwood, and Thomas Hope; at Elk-
