tied, an act to abolish imprisonment for debt on certain
judgments rendered by Justices of the peace, passed at
December session, eighteen hundred and thirty, chapter
one hundred and fifty-five, be, and the same is hereby
repealed.

CHAPTER 143.


An act for building a bridge across the Little Falls of Gun-
powder, near Balden 's Mills.

Passed Mar. 7,1833

WHEREAS, it is represented to this General Assembly ,
by the petitions of sundry inhabitants of Baltimore and
Harford counties, that a bridge is much wanted across the
little falls of Gunpowder, that divide the two counties upon
the road leading from the upper cross roads by Balden's
Mills, to Baltimore City;— Therefore,

Preamble.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Thomas Hope, Abraham Rutledge, and
William Nelson, for Harford county, and David Powell,
and Samuel Watkins, for Baltimore county, be, and they

construct.

are hereby appointed managers to fix upon a site near
Balden's Mills, for erecting a bridge across the little falls
of Gunpowder, at or near where the present crossing place
now is, and they are hereby authorised to contract with some
person or persons for building the same upon the most
reasonable terms that they can get a good and substantial
bridge built for, to be weather-boarded and covered with
white pine or cedar shingles, and done in a workmanlike
manner.

Directions.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the commissioners of
of Baltimore and Harford counties are hereby authorized
and directed to levy at ther next annual county levies, the
sum of two hundred and fifty dollars each, and make the
same payable to the said managers for the erection of said
bridge, and the said managers shall give a full and accu-

rate account of the expense they may be at in building the
said bridge to the commissioners of each county, and in
case the said sum of five hundred dollars shall not be fully
and fairly expended in the erection of said bridge and
filling in of the abutments, that they shall return the overplus
money to the said county commissioners, to be by them
applied to the use of their respective counties,
