CHAPTER 236

Art act to Incorporate the Union Church, in Bakersville, in
Washington County

Passed Mar 10 1835

WHEREAS, it is represented to this General Assembly be
the petitions of sundry members of the German Reformed,
Evangelical Lutheran, and the Methodist Episcopal
Churches, in Bakersulle, in Washington county, that they
all worship in one church, and that the benefit of said con
gregations would be much promoted by an act of ineorpo
ration, — Therefore,

Preamble

Section 1 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the Elders and Deacons of the German Re-
formed, Evangelical Lutheran, and Methodist Episcopal
congregatrons of the Union Church in Bakersville, in Wash
ington county, at present in office, together with such others
as may be added to their number, and heir successors, be,
and they are hereby constituted a body politic and corporate,
by the name of The Vestries of the Union Church, in Ba-
kersville, and by that name shall have perpetual succession,

may sue and be sued, and have and use a common seal,
with power to purchase, receive, and hold, they and their
successors, any lands, tenements, rents, goods, and chattels,
of what krnd soever, which may be purchased, devrsed, or
given to them for the use of said congregations, and to
lease, rent, or otherwise dispose of the same, in such man
ner as to them shall seem most conducive to the interests of
the said congregations

Sec 2. And be it enacted, That the said congregations
shall hold a joint ownership in the church property, the
lands and buildings, of the said congregations and so long
as they shall mutually hold the said properly jointly, each
congregation shall contribute an equal amount tor all re
pairs which may be made by the consent of a majority ol
the joint trustees of said congregations

Sec 3 And be it enacted, That so soon as it may be
convenient, after the passage of this act, and annually in
