improved by any ditch or ditches which may or shall have
been or may be opened, and may proceed to lay out other
ditches making into some part of the original ditch

Elect officers

Sec. 6 And be it enacted, That the said Company, at each
and every annual meeting thereof, shall choose by ballot, and
by a majority of votes, one or two managers, at the discre-
tion of the Company, one treasurer, and one secretary, who
shall respectively continue in office until the second Satur-
day in April, next ensuing their election, and until success-
ors shall respectively be chosen

Powers rested

Sec. 7. And be it enacted, That the said Company shall
have power at any and every annual meeting thereof, to as
certain and determine the sum or suras of money which it
may be necessary to raise for the purposes of the said Com
pany, and to assign to the managers respectively such part
or parts of any ditch or ditches, for care and superintend-
ence, as may be deemed expedient and proper, and to de-
termine upon and give directions concerning all matters
touching the interest of said Company, and which may be
deemed requisite for effectually draining and reclaiming the
said marshes and low grounds

Managers to ap-
portion &c.

Sec. 8 And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
managers, for the time being, as soon as conveniently may
be, alter the said Company shall have ascertained and
determined, at any annual meeting, any summer sums of
money to be raised for the purposes of the said Company,
to lay and assess upon the value of the said marshes and
low grounds, such sum or sums of money so ascertained
and determined to be raised, that is to say, the said company
having determined, in manner aforesaid, upon the sum or
sums of money to be raised at any particular lime, the said
managers, for the time being, shall apportion and assess the
same among the several owners of the said marshes and
low grounds, according to the quantity held by each, and
according to the valuation and appraisement so as aforesaid
made by the commissioners, and returned and recorded,
and shall appoint the time for the payment of the same, and
the said managers shall, from time to time, make out dupli-
cate lists, under their hand, of all the assessment and taxes
to by them to be made and laid as aforesaid, which lists
shall also contain an account of all the changes of owner-
ship and transfers of any of the said marshes and low
grounds, and one of the said lists shall be delivered to the
treasurer for the time being, and the other shall be retained
by the said managers, and such assessments and lists shall
