ward Bromwell, William Westly Bromwell, and Levin Lake
Bromwell, shall be oi the same force validity and effect, and
of equal avail to all intents and purposes, as if the name of
Bromwell had been the true and proper name of the said
James Bromwell, and Mary Ann his wife, and their several
children hereinbefore named, from their births, any law or
custom to the contrary notwithstanding

CHAP. 111.

Sec 5 And be it enacted, That the said James Bromwell,
shall be, and he is hereby made capable in law to transmit
inheritances, as if born in wedlock

An act authorising the Levy Court of Montgomery County,
to appoint a Bailiff, for the Village of Unity, in said
County

Passed Feb, 16 1835

Section 1 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma
ryland, That it shall be the duty of the Levy Court of
Montgomery county, annually, to appoint a Bailiff for the
Village of Unity, in said county

Sec 2 And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
said bailiff to attend in said village, as a peace officer, to
suppress all riotous, disorderly assemblages of negroes and
mulattoes, and when said bailiff shall apprehend or arrest
any disorderly person or persons, under the provisions of this
act, it shall be his duty to take him, her or them before

some justice of the peace of said county, then and there to
be tried according to the nature of the offence charged, and
the said justice of the peace shall have power to punish
such offender by the infliction of any number of stripes, not
exceeding thirty nine

Sec 3 And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the Levy Court of said county, and they are hereby autho-
rised and empowered, to levy on the assessable property of
said county, such sum of money as the said courts may deem
right and proper, for the use and benefit of said bailiff, as
a remuneration for such services
