            THOMAS KING CARROLL, ESQ. GOVERNOR.                                                                                                                  1829.

commissioners of the tax for said county, are now by law authorised
and required to transact the same; and the person so
appointed shall, before he enters on the duties of his office,
execute a bond to the state of Maryland, to be approved of
by the said commissioners in the penalty of one thousand dollars,
conditioned for the true and faithful performance of the
several and respective duties imposed by this act, which bond
shall be recorded in the clerk's office of the county court of
said county; and a copy thereof, under the seal of said court,
shall be as sufficient evidence as the original; and the said
clerk, when appointed, shall also take and subscribe the following
oath or affirmation, (as the case may be,) to wit:  " I,
A. B. do swear (or affirm) that as clerk to the commissioners
of Allegany county, I will honestly and faithfully, to the best
of my skill and judgment, execute the duties of said office,
without favor, affection, prejudice or partiality, so help me
GOD!" which oath or affirmation any one of the said commissioners
is hereby authorised to administer; and the said clerk
shall be subject and liable to the same penalties and forfeitures,
for non-performance or neglect of official duty, as are
prescribed by the existing laws in relation, as well to the several
matters and things which the clerk of the county court
of said county may be legally directed and required to perform,
under the authority of the Levy Court, as likewise to
those which appertain to the office of the present clerk of the
commissioners of the tax for said county.
  CHAP. 25.  
    Sec. 6.  And be it enacted, That in case of a vacancy occuring
in the office of the clerk to the commissioners, as created by
this act, in consequence of death, resignation, removal or disqualification,
the same shall be supplied as soon thereafter as
may be practicable, in the manner prescribed and directed in
the preceding section of this act.
Vacancy of Clerk.
    Sec. 7.  And be it enacted, That the said clerk of the commissioners
to be appointed in virtue of this act as aforesaid,
shall be entitled to receive, as a compensation for his services,
such sum annually as the said commissioners may direct, not
exceeding the sum of three hundred dollars, to be levied on
the assessable property of said county, and collected and paid
over as other county charges are.
Clerks salary.
    Sec. 8.  And be it enacted, That upon the appointment of a
clerk to the commissioners as aforesaid, the clerk of Allegany
County Court shall, upon demand of said clerk to the commissioners,
by order of said commissioners, forthwith deliver
over to the said clerk of the commissioners, all the books, accounts,
papers, and documents, belonging, or in any manner
appertaining to the said Levy Court of Allegany county; and
shall annually, on or before the second Monday of June, furnish
to and and lay before the said commissioners, all copies of
such lists, accounts, papers and documents, as may be useful
and necessary to the said commissioners; for which services
