earning a living; said pension to be paid in quarterly install-
ments of TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS each during his natu-
ral life; and the said County Commissioners of Queen Anne's
County are hereby authorized, empowered and directed to
levy said sum of ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS upon the as-
sessable property of said county, for the payment of said
pension as herein provided.

SECTION 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act is an
emergency law necessary for the immediate preservation of
the public health or safety and shall take effect from the date
of its passage.

CHAPTER 35.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 81
of Article 9 of the Public Local Laws of Maryland, title
"Charles County," sub-title " "Jurors. Witnesses. Bail-
iffs. Criers and Messengers," by increasing the compen-
sation of Jurors.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 81 of Article 9 of the Public Local Laws
of Maryland, title "Charles County," sub-title "Jurors. Wit-
nesses, Bailiffs. Crier and Messengers," be and the same is
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments to road as
follows:

81. The pay of jurors attending the Circuit Court of
Charles County shall be three dollars per day, and ten cents
for each mile, over five miles, for going to and returning from
the court, once in each week, while sewing on the jury; the
pay of witnesses shall be one dollar per day while attending
the Circuit Court under summons; the pay of each bailiff and
messenger to the Court shall be two dollars per day; the per
diem of each crier to said Court shall be two dollars, and the
same fees as are now allowed ; and the certificate of the Clerk
of the Circuit Court, expressing the number of days any of
the aforegoing officers, jurors or witnesses, whose fees are
properly chargeable against the county, may be entitled to
for such attendance shall be sufficient authority for the treas-
urer of said county to pay the amount therein specified on
presentation.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1920.
