domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the
same; that I will obey the orders of the President of the
United States and of the Governor of the State of Maryland;
that I make this obligation freely, without any mental reser-
vation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faith-
fully discharge the duties of the officer of................

in the National Guard of the United States and of the State
of Maryland, upon which I am about to enter; so help me
God.

Failure to comply with this section will cancel such ap-
pointment.

25. Officers shall take rank from the date of their commis-
sions and in such manner and precedence as provided by
Army Regulations.

26. Boards of examination for officers shall be appointed
by the Governor and Commander-in-Chief unless otherwise
directed by United States regulations for the government of
the National Guard or Naval Militia.

The members of the Board, other than the recorder, when
one is appointed, shall be paid the sum of $150.00 each per
annum for all services in connection with such board, and
the recorder thereof shall receive the sum of $250.00 per an-
num for all services in connection with said board. Provided,
however, hotel bills and traveling expenses in addition may be
paid on authority of the Adjutant General.

27. A commissioned officer shall not be removed from office
without his consent, except as provided in this Article or by
Army Regulations.

28. Commissions of officers may be vacated upon resig-
nation, absence without leave for three months, upon recom-
mendation of an efficiency board, or pursuant to sentence of
a court-martial, or upon the mustering out or disbandment of
his organization.

29. A commissioned officer tendering his resignation be-
fore having served five years, if the Governor shall accept it,
shall receive an honorable discharge. If he has served five
