and 216G and 216H so as to provide for the appointment,
qualification and term of service of persons employed in
the Fire Department of Baltimore County, providing for
their compensation and for the allowance of pensions to
them and to their dependents and providing for the ex-
amination of persons desiring to become members of such
department and for the protection of the property and
apparatus of said department and for the prevention of
interference with its members in the discharge of their
duties.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 212 of Offutt's Code of the Public Local
Laws of Baltimore County, published in 1916, title "Fire De-
partment," be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted
with amendments so as to read as follows, that is to say:

SECTION 212. In establishing such department they shall
provide all such proper fire engines and instruments, with
sufficient equipments necessary therefor to be used for the
preservation of property in said districts and they shall have
the power and authority to employ all officers and employees
necessary, in their judgment, to serve and use such fire appa-
ratus .for its intended purposes; and further, also to ordain
all needful rules and regulations for the proper conduct of
such officers and employees, and penalties for the infraction
thereof; and they shall have authority to levy upon the assess-
able property of the county such tax as may be necessary to
support and maintain said fire department and pay for the
necessary fire engines, hose and apparatus.

SECTION 2. And be it further enacted, That the following
additional sections to be known as Sections 212A, 212B, 212C.
and 212D and 216A, 216B, 216C, 216D. 216E, 216F, 216G
and 216H be added to the Code of Public Local Laws of
Baltimore County and to read as follows, that is to say:

212A. There shall be a Board of Examiners for the Fire
Department of Baltimore County composed of the President
of the Board of County Commissioners of Baltimore County,
the Chief Engineer of the Fire Department and the Secretary
of the Board of Health for Baltimore County, who shall each
serve without compensation in addition to that payable to
them by law for the discharge of the duties of their respective
offices. It shall be the duty of such examining board to as-
