, CHAPTER 130.
AN ACT to provide for the general indexing of the Land,
Mortgage, Equity, Judgment and Magistrate Judgment
Records of Howard County from the year 1840 to the
year 1920, according to the most approved modern system
in vogue.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Howard County
be and he is hereby authorized to make a general index of the
Land, Mortgage, Equity, Judgment and Magistrate Judgment
Records of said Howard County from the beginning of said
records in the year 1840 in said county to the year 1920 ac-
cording to the most approved system now in vogue.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the Clerk of the
Circuit Court for Howard County be and he is hereby au-
thorized to let on contract the execution of the work of index-
ing as aforementioned as a whole, subject to the approval of
the Judges of the Circuit Court for Howard County.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the cost of said
indexing be paid by the Clerk of the Circuit Court for How-
ard County out of the excess fees of his office for the fiscal
years ending December 1, 1920, 1921 and 1922, after the pay-
ment of all the office expenses and salary of said clerk and his
deputies shall have been paid.
SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners of Howard County be and they are hereby author-
ized and required to levy upon the assessable property of said
county in the usual manner as provided by law, a sum suf-
ficient to pay any deficit, if any, in the cost of said indexing
which may be found to exist after the application of the ex-
cess fees of the office of the said Clerk of the Circuit Court for
Howard County for the three fiscal years ending December
1. 1920, 1921 and 1922, respectively, after the payment of all
the office expenses and salaries as aforesaid.
SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1920.
