less than one thousand dollars per school year. Provided,
further, that if such a teacher holds a certificate of the first
class, and has taught in the high schools of the State of Mary-
land for a period of three years, such teacher shall receive a
salary of not less than ten hundred and fifty dollars per
school year. Provided, further, that if such a teacher holds
a certificate of the first class, and has taught in the high
schools of the State of Maryland for a period of four years,
such teacher shall receive a salary of not less than eleven hun-
dred dollars per school year. And provided, further, that if
such a teacher holds a certificate of the first class, and has
taught in the high schools of the State of Maryland for a
period of five years, such teacher shall receive a salary of not
less than twelve hundred dollars per school year.
SECTION 122H. All elementary teachers and principals on
provisional certificates, may be paid one hundred dollars less,
per school year, than the minimum salaries prescribed in the
aforegoing Sections 122A to 122G, inclusive; and such teach-
er shall be paid at least one hundred dollars less, per school
year, than regularly certified teachers. The salary of any
principal or teacher who fails to attend a reputable summer
school, once in three years, as required by the State law, shall,
for the first year after such failure, be automatically decreased
fifty dollars, and for the second year one hundred dollars,
and for the third year one hundred and fifty dollars; and the
salary of any teacher whose salary has been decreased under
the provisions of this section, and who shall, after such de-
crease has gone into effect, attend a summer school, be auto-
matically increased, at the rate of fifty dollars per school year,
until the maximum salary is reached.
SECTION 122 I. The Board of County Commissioners of
Howard County shall levy sufficient funds to meet the scale
of salaries provided for in the eight preceding sections.
SECTION 122J. And be it further enacted, That this bill
become effective June 1st, 1920.
