CHAPTER 717.

AN ACT to make valid deeds, mortgages, bonds of conveyances,
bills of sale, and all other conveyances of real and per-
sonal property, or of any interest, defective in acknowl-
edgment or in the certificate thereof, or when the official
character of the officer taking the acknowledgment has
not been stated in the body of the certificate or certified to.
as required by law, or when the conveyance has not been
witnessed and sealed, or any mortgage or assignment of
mortgage defectively sworn to or not sworn to at all.

CHAPTER 718.

AN ACT to enlarge and extend the powers of the Maryland
Electric and Power Company.

WHEREAS, A corporation, known as The Maryland Electric
and Power Company, has been formed and incorporated un-
der the general laws of the State of Maryland, relating to cor-
porations ;

SECTION 1. Be it enacted, That the said corporation, The
Maryland Electric and Power Company, shall be, and it is
hereby, authorized and empowered to enter upon, grade, oc-
cupy and use any public road, street, bridge or highway in
the State of Maryland, or in any municipality in the said
State, for the purposes mentioned and set forth in the Certifi-
cate of Incorporation thereof under the general laws of the
State of Maryland, provided, however, that free and con-
venient travel over such public road, street, bridge or high-
way be not prevented, after having first obtained the consent
of the County Commissioners of the county, or of the munici-
pal authorities of any incorporated town or city, as the case
may be, in which such public road, street, bridge or highway
may be located ; and that said corporation shall be, and it is
hereby, authorized and empowered to acquire by purchase,
gift or grant, all such real and personal property, rights of
way, water rights, dam sites and other easements, estates and
rights in land, as may be necessary or convenient and ad-
vantageous for the construction and operation of any plant for
the generation of electricity by steam or hydro-electric process
