SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the first day of June, 1920.

CHAPTER 707.
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 4 of the Code of Pub-
lic Local Laws of Maryland (1915 Revision), title "City
of Baltimore," sub-title "Police Commissioners," to be
known as Section 770-A and to follow immediately after
Section 770 of said Article, relating to the employment
and compensation of chauffeurs.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the new section be and it is hereby added to Article
4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1915 Revi-
sion), title "City of Baltimore," sub-title "Police Commis-
sioners," to be known as Section 770-A, to follow immediately
after Section 770, to read as follows:
770-A. The Board of Police Commissioners for the City of
Baltimore are hereby authorized and directed to employ all
chauffeurs which the aforesaid Board may deem necessary
for the operation of the patrol wagons and other automobiles
possessed by the said Board. Said chauffeurs are to receive a
weekly salary of twenty-five dollars ($25.00), payable semi-
monthly, and shall be retained on the force during good be-
havior and efficiency by the said Board of Police Commis-
sioners, and may be removed by the said Board for official mis-
conduct or inefficiency and trial had before the Board of
Police Commissioners after reasonable notice thereof. They
shall be included under the provisions of Section 777 of this
Article, so that they may enjoy the same rights and privileges
and benefits, subject to the same limitations and conditions as
are herein prescribed and enjoyed and conferred for the re-
tiring of the members of the police force for the said City of
Baltimore; provided, however, that any of the persons herein
mentioned who were in the service of the Police Department
prior to the year 1900, shall pay into the special fund, a sum
equivalent to two per centum on the salary paid to them since
the year 1900; and any who have been employed since the
year 1900, shall pay into the special fund a sum equivalent to
two per centum on the salary paid to them since the date of
