CHAPTER 654.

AN ACT to authorize, empower and direct the Comptroller
of the State of Maryland to issue his warrant to pay to
William F. Chesley, of St. Mary's County, the sum of
seven dollars and thirty cents ($7.30) for certain taxes
paid into the State Treasury in error.

CHAPTER. 655.

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Mayor and Commis-
sioners of the town of Barton, in Allegany County, to
issue bonds on the credit of said town to the extent of ten
thousand ($10,000) dollars for fire protection and for the
purchase of fire apparatus.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Mayor and Commissioners of the town of Bar-
ton, in Allegany County, be and they are hereby authorized
and empowered to issue serial coupon bonds on the credit of
said town to an amount not exceeding ten thousand ($10,000)
dollars, said bonds to be issued in sums of one hundred ($100)
dollars, or any multiple thereof up to five hundred ($500)
dollars, to be signed by the Mayor of said town and counter-
signed by the Clerk of said town, to bear interest at a rate
not exceeding six per cent per annum, payable semi-annually
on January first and July first in each and every year during
which said bonds shall be outstanding and remain unpaid, and
to be exempt from State, municipal and county taxation. The
said bonds shall have written on them a distinct reference to
the Act authorizing the same, and shall be designated as Town
of Barton Fire Protection Bonds.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said bonds
shall be dated July 1, 1920, and so issued that bonds to the ex-
tent of five hundred ($500) dollars shall mature and become
payable on July 1, 1921, and five hundred ($500) dollars on
July 1st each year thereafter until the entire issue of bonds
shall have matured and been paid; and said bonds shall be
sold after due advertisement to the highest bidder and said
Mayor and Commissioners shall have the right to reject any or
all bids.
