and upon conviction, shall be fined not less than fifty dollars
($50) nor more than one hundred dollars ($100), and in de-
fault of the payment of such fine, shall be imprisoned as in the
case of the non-payment of other fines in the jurisdiction in
which such fine shall be imposed.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the first day of June, 1920.

CHAPTER 652.

AN ACT to protect the interests of Orchard Growers in Wash-
ington County from damage by rabbits, by providing for
the issuing of a permit by the State Game Warden to
destroy rabbits doing damage in orchards at any season.
(Vetoed.)

CHAPTER 653.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 31
of. Article 19 of the Code of Public Laws of Maryland,
title "St. Mary's County," sub-title ''County Commis-
sioners," increasing the compensation of the clerk to the
County Commissioners.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 31 of Article 19 of the Code of Public
Laws o f Maryland, title "St. Mary's County," sub-title
"County Commissioners," be and the same is hereby
repealed and re-enacted with amendments to read as follows:

31. They are authorized and directed at their first meeting
after their election and qualification and not later than the
year eighteen hundred and ninety-one and thereafter, to
elect by a majority vote a clerk to said board who shall serve
as such for the term of two years and until his successor is
elected and qualified. The clerk shall receive an annual salary
of eight hundred dollars ($800), but shall be allowed no
other compensation.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1920.
