county, the said John Hancock was confined in jail for
the purpose of giving testimony in behalf of the tate.

CHAP 11..

CHAPRER 10.


An act authorising and requiring the Commissioners of
Washington county, to levy at their next annual levy
a sufficient sum in advance to pay Jurors and State
Witnesses in said county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assemsbly of
Maqryland, Thai; the Commissioners of Washington
county, be, and they are hereby authorised and required
to levy on the assessable property of said county at
their next annual levy, in addition to the amount now
required by law, and annually thereafter, a sufficient
sum in advance, to pay jurors and State witnesses in
said county, promptly at the close of each term of the
said county court

SEC. 2. Ane be if enacted, That it shall be the duty
of the collector of said countv, whenever any person
shall present to him an order from the clerk of Wash-
ington county court for his attendance as a juror or
State witness, at any time after the close of the Novem-
ber term in eighteen hundred and thirty-seven, to pay
over to such person or his order the amount due him/
after deducting therefrom all charges the collector may
have against such jurors or witnesses. .

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the clerk of Wash-
ington county court is hereby required to furnish each
juror with an order for the amount of his per diem in
the same manner that orders are now granted to wit-'
nesses.
