CHAP. 299.
Qualification
|
Isaac Linn, and on the first Monday of April in each
and every year hereafter, at such place as shall be de-
signated by the burgess and commissioners, be autho-
rised to elect a burgess and three commissioners for the
said town, who shall have resided within the limits of
said town twelve months next proceeding the election,
and be upwards of twenty-one years of age.

Judge of first
|
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That a justice of the peace
of said county shall appoint by writing under his hand
and seal, one judge to hold the first election, who shall
keep the polls open from nine o'clock in the morning
until two in the evening, and shall conduct the said
election in the manner in which the judges of election
are now by law directed to conduct an election for
Delegates to the General Assembly, as far as may be
consistent with the provisions of this act, and the said

judge shall make return under his hand and seal of the
persons elected to the clerk of Frederick county, to be
by him safely kept.

Future election
|
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That all future elections
shall be held and conducted as shall from time to time
be directed by the ordinances of the corporation, the
same not being inconsistent with the provisions of this
act.

Burgess preside
|
SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the burgess at all
meetings of the municipality shall preside, and shall
sign all ordinances passed by the commissioners or a
majority of them.

Meetings
|
SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the burgess and com-
missioners aforesaid may meet together, from time to
time as often as occasion may require, upon the busi-
ness of the town, and not less than once in every six
|
|
|
Vacancies
|
months; and if during the year for which they may be
elected the burgess or any of the commissioners should
die, resign, remove from said town, or be non compos,
or displaced, an election to fill such vacancy shall be
held, at which all persons qualified, as is specified in the
second section of this act, shall be entitled to vote.

Clerk
|
SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners, or a majority of them, shall have power to ap-
point a clerk and assign his duties, and allow him such

compensation for his services as they, or a majority of
them may think proper; and that all ordinances passed
by said commissioners, or a majority of them, shall by
