LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 36.

Objects declar-

ed

plead and be impleaded, and to hold, take and enjoy
to them and their successors, for the use of the said
school, any estate, in lands and tenements, goods, chat-
tels and effects, by gift, grant, conveyance, devise or
bequest of any person or persons whatsoever ; provided,
the whole of their property shall not any time exceed
the value of two thousand dollars, and the same to use
in any manner they may deem most beneficial to the
said school, for the purposes of education.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said trustees and
their successors may have, hold and enjoy the do-
nation which Cordelia H. Downey heretofore made to
the said school, according to the true intent and pur-
pose of the same, and for the use and benefit of the
said school.

Annual elec-
tions.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That an election by bal-
lot for seven trustees, shall be held at Central school
House, someday between the first and tenth days of Au-
gust next, and on some day between the first and tenth
day of August in every year thereafter, of which ten
days notice shall be published by the trustees, in such
manner as they may direct, and that every person who

shall contribute twenty-five cents to the said school
before the next election, shall be entitled to vote there-

contribute twenty-five cents within the twelve month
next before any subsequent election for trustees as
