CHAPTER 179.

1837.

An act to change the name of Eager Alley, in the City of
Baltimore, to State Street.

Name changed

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, be,
and they are hereby authorised by ordinance to alter
and change the name of Eager Alley in said city, to
that of State Street.

CHAPTER 130.

1837.

Aw act entitled, an act to provide for the election of a
Sheriff in Carroll County, and for other purposes.

Appointment of
Judges of Elec-
tion for

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Governor and Council shall and
may appoint three suitable persons for each election
district in Carroll county, residents therein, who, or a
majority, or any one of whom, in case of the non-
attendance of the other two, shall be the judges of the
election for such district from the time of their appoint-
ment, until the appointment of other judges to supply
their places by the commissioners or levy court of Car-
roll county as hereafter may be provided by law, and

the judges so appointed shall have, hold and exercise
the same power and authority, and be subject to the
same penalties as the judges of election in the several
counties of this State now are.

SEC. 2. And be if enacted, That the judges of election
in and for Carroll county, shall and may on Monday
the twentieth day of March, in the year eighteen hun-
dred and thirty-seven, open and hold open from nine
o'clock in the morning until six o'clock in the evening,
the election polls at the several places which shall then
be fixed by law for holding the elections in said
county, and receive the votes or ballots of the voters of
said county for sheriffs, in the usual manner of holding
elections for sheriffs.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said judges or
the presiding judge in each of said districts shall on the
Wednesday following the said thirteenth day of March
