58 ~ 9 January 1693/4 Court convenes; Commissioners present: Francis Jenckins, Capt. William Whittington, James Round, Thomas Jones, Edmund Howard, Capt. John King, Stephen Horsey
58 ~ Petition of William Brittingham concerning his wife’s estate; Court does not have jurisdiction.
58 ~ Three proclamations read in Court (not entered): two for preroguing the Assembly; other from Sir Edmund Andrews, “qualifying their Ma’ties Counsel” with the Province.
58 ~ Petition of Mary Maxwell, transported indentured servant of Edward Jones; states that she has completed her service; requests her corn and clothes as provided by Act of Assembly; Jones appears in Court; ordered to pay Maxwell, with costs.
59 ~ Letter from Samuel Hopkins read (not recorded); Court orders that Stephen Page pay fine of Elizabeth Lawrence, 20 days work, to be used for “new near road” from ferry to Snow Hill; also 50 days work assessed Edward Mcdonnell to be used for same road.
59 ~ Warrant against Andrew Chappell read in court; Jane, wife of Donnam Olondman, claims Chappell bewitched her husband; no evidence presented; case dismissed.
59 ~ John King enters account of lost days and expenses for his runaway servant, John Ocain; total 110 runaway days plus 400 lbs/tbco to Walter Evins, tailor, for returning him; Court confirms the account and orders Ocain (Cain) to serve additional time per Act of Assembly.
59 ~ John McKnitt and Amos Parsons appear; Mcknitt testifies per previous appearance that he fears Parsons doing harm to his person or property; Court orders Parsons to post security for his good behavior; Parsons makes bond for £10, securities Thomas Beauchamp, William Warwick.
59 ~ Amos Parsons fined for contempt for failure to obey a summons.
59 ~ John Bishopp petition to be discharged from his bond; granted.
60 ~ Leonard Jones bill payable to Alexander Kyle proved in Court.
60 ~ Petition of Elinor Harris for relief; Court orders she be given 500 lbs/tbco from next levy.
60 ~ Petition of William Stevens (not recorded); Court orders that William Elgate pay him a cow, calf and mare as requested.
60 ~ Court adjourns for the day.
