132 ~  Court convenes; Commissioners present: Francis Jenckins, James Dashiels, Samuel Hopkins, Thomas Jones, Capt. John King.

 

132 ~  County Levy; “This day the County Leavy was laid, which did amount to 36 pound tobacco per poll public  140 ambo fecit  176 per poll”.

 

133 ~  William Venables approved to remove banisters from old to new Courthouse, if required; to make adjustments and other repairs as necessary.

 

133      Henry Lynch, merchant, Pltf. vs. Walter Lane, administrator for estate of Josias Seaward, Deft. for payment of 8942 lbs/tbco; Peter Dent,attorney for Lynch, presents bond signed 5 June 1686 by Seward for debt of 4471 lbs/tbco, at Pocomoke, witnessed by John Rousallo and Denack Dennis;on back of bond Lynch notes payment of 2330 lbs/tbco  on 10 August 1687; Lynch’s account for Walter Lane presented; includes merchandise and transport, costs; mentions Mr. Dodson of London, Henry Ashton, Peter Whaples, , brother Robert (Lane); Lane admits debt in amount of 1925 lbs/tbco; Court orders payment, with costs.

           

136 ~  Lawrence Crawford & Wife Sarah, Pltf. vs. Thomas Fenwick, Deft. for payment of 600 lbs/tbco, due estate of John White, deceased, for which Sarah is administratrix; James Sangster, attorney fro Plaintiffs, presents bill of debt signed 18 January 1685/6 by Fenwick, payable on demand; witnesses Anne McMillion, Violetta Warren; Court rules a non-suit.

 

137 ~  John Webb, innholder, Pltf. vs. John Kellam, Deft. for debt of 544 lbs/tbco; Peter Dent, attorney for Webb, presents account of Kellam from 1691; mentions credit given to Edmund Beauchamp, also credit from Robert Christall; Kellam admits debt in amount of 314 lbs/tbco; settlement provides “the said Webb assumed to defend sd Kellam from Edmund Beauchamp & his heirs”.

 

138 ~  John Emmett, Pltf. vs. John Rowell, cordwinder, Deft. for debt of 577 lbs/tbco; Peter Dent, attorney for Pltf; presents note signed  9 Jan 1690/91 by Rowell promisind delivery at Pocomoke; witnesses Richard Farewell and Samuel Worthington, entered into record; Rowell admits debt; Court orders payment, with costs.

 

139 ~  George Layfield, Esq., Pltf. vs. Richard Dennis, Deft. for debt of £2/7/6 and 500 lbs/tbco; payment of £4/14/12 Sterling demanded; James Sangster, attorney for Layfield presents Dennis’ account from 1689-91; Peter Dent, attorney for Dennis, enters “non sum informatus”; admits debt; Court orders payment as declared, with costs.

 

140 ~  George Layfield, Esq., Pltf. vs. Richard Dennis, Deft. for debt of £20 sterling; James Sangster, attorney for Layfield presents note signed 4 October 1689; witnessed by Hester Orchard and Richard Farewell; Peter Dent, attorney for Dennis, enters “non sum informatus”; admits debt. 

 

141 ~  Case of Francis Roberts, Pltf. vs. William Cheeseman, Deft. for payment of 8000 lbs/tbco; James Sangster attorney for Roberts, claims Cheeseman has not returned kept Roberts’ long boat after it came adrift; case dismissed by Court. (See Transcription)
