ty in writing to require the laying of improved sidewalks in
front of all the property mentioned in the petition fronting or
binding on the same side of said street, avenue, or road; it
shall be the duty of the County Commissioners of Baltimore
County, and they are hereby authorized, empowered and di-
rected in cases where the residence of the property owners so
binding on said street, avenue or road is known, notify them
by registered letter, and in cases where the residence of such
persons is unknown, they shall give notice by publication for
two successive weeks in one or more weekly newspaper pub-
lished in Baltimore County, such notice to be given within
thirty days after the receipt of said petition and to require
the property owners, property holders, or other person or
persons properly chargeable therewith, of all the property, men-
tioned in the petition, fronting or binding on the said side of
said street, avenue or road, to lay along the entire property
binding on said street, avenue or road, a sidewalk, within sixty
days after the service of said notice, in accordance with the re-
quirements and under the penalties of this act.

SEC. 2. Be it further enacted, That at the time of the filing
of the petition with the County Commissioners, signed by the
majority of the property owners, there shall be filed a list
containing the names and addresses of all the property owners,
owning property fronting or binding on said street, avenue
or road, within the metes and bounds contained in the petition.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That all sidewalks laid
under the provisions of this act shall be laid of such material,
thickness and width as contained in the petition, but in no
instance to be less than three feet in width, and to conform
with the grade of the avenue, street or road on which such side-
walks are laid.

SEC. 4. Be it further enacted, That upon the failure of any
property owner to comply with the notice as herein provided,
the County Commissioners shall immediately notify the prop-
erty owners in writing by registered letter who have failed to
comply with the provisions of this Act to the effect that within
ten (10) days after the date of such notice if the law is not
complied with, the County Commissioners are authorized and
directed to immediately proceed to lay such sidewalks as are
specified in petition, and to charge same as a lien on the
property fronting or binding on said street, avenue or road
within the metes and bounds contained in said petition, and
to collect the cost of the work as taxes are now collected.
