fice of County Road Superintendent, and prescribing the powers
and duties of said officer, and to read as follows:
SEC. 227. The County Commissioners of Somerset County
shall, at the time of making their annual levy, levy upon the
taxable property of said county a tax not less than twenty
cents, nor more than twenty-five cents, on the one hundred dol-
lars, which shall be used for the repair and reconstruction of
public roads and bridges in said county, which taxes shall be
levied and collected as other taxes. The County Commissioners
may levy and appropriate such other sum or sums of money as
they may deem requisite for the building of any new bridge or
the opening of any new road, new drain or ditch. All of the
taxes levied and collected under the provisions of this Section
shall be disbursed by the said County Commissioners upon the
roads and bridges in said county, and in the manner hereinafter
provided, and in no other way.
SEC. 228. The County Commissioners of Somerset County
shall, on or before the second Tuesday in December, in each
and every year, beginning on the second Tuesday in December in
the year Nineteen Hundred and Sixteen, appoint some competent
person, who shall have sufficient knowledge, in the estimation
and judgment of the Board of County Commissioners of Somer-
set County, to enable him to discharge properly the duties of
grading, draining, maintaining, repairing and reconstructing the
public roads and bridges of said county, county road superin-
tendent for Somerset County, at a salary not exceeding one
thousand dollars ($1, 000) a year, payable monthly; and the said
county road superintendent shall hold his office and be paid for
his services from the first day of January next succeeding his ap-
pointment for one year, unless sooner removed, as hereinafter
provided; and in addition thereto a sum not exceeding two hun-
dred dollars ($200. 00) annually to cover all actual and neces-
sary traveling and other expenses incurred by him in the dis-
charge of his official duties hereunder.
SEC. 239. The said county road superintendent shall be sub-
ject to removal from office at all times by the said County
Commissioners, in their discretion, and the said county road
superintendent shall not be entitled to receive any salary from
the date of such removal.
SEC. 230. The county road superintendent, thus appointed,
shall give bond to the said County Commissioners, properly
