conditioned for the faithful performance of his duty, in the
penal sum of one thousand dollars ($1, 000).
SEC. 231. The county road superintendent shall be a tax-
payer and voter in Somerset County during the term of his
office, and shall have and take entire charge of all public roads
and bridges in Somerset County, and shall make all specifica-
tions for the building of new roads and bridges, and shall see
that no obstruction, hindrance or injury is or shall be per-
mitted upon any road or bridge under his supervision as afore-
said. He shall employ such help, teams and implements as he
may deem necessary for the working, repairing and constructing
of said roads and bridges, to be paid for out of the levy made
therefor as aforesaid by the County Commissioners. He shall
have charge and control of all teams, carts, wagons and other
machinery and implements which may be purchased for the use
of said roads. He shall not work out or expend on the roads or
bridges of said county a greater sum in any one fiscal year than
the amount levied by the County Commissioners for this purpose.
He shall appear before the Commissioners at their first meeting
in each and every month and make a statement to them of the
work done and money expended. He shall examine and certify to
the correctness of all bills and accounts for any work done or
materials furnished for any of the public roads or bridges in
Somerset County before the same shall be paid, and no payment
shall be made until such accounts have been certified by him.
He shall make out annually in writing a detailed report of all
work done on the county roads and bridges for the year, to-
gether with the names of all persons working on said roads and
bridges, and the amount to which each person is entitled for
such work, and which he has certified as correct, which report
shall be made before the first day of July for the year ending
on the first day of March, and in making such report he shall be
allowed the services of a stenographer and typewriter, to be
paid a sum not to exceed twenty-five dollars for such service.
Said county road superintendent shall not be interested in the
business of any person, firm or corporation from which anything
shall be purchased for the use of said roads or bridges, or re-
ceive any commissions on any purchase so made.
SEC. 232. The county road superintendent may appoint
District Road Supervisors, but not more than one Supervisor
for any precinct or district of Somerset County, who shall
be paid such wages or salary as said Road Superintendent
shall prescribe, and it shall be the duty of the said District
