EMERSON C. HARRINGTON, GOVERNOR. 1623

of the Act of the General Assembly of Maryland, approved
April 16th, 1914 (Page 1016, Laws of Maryland of 1914),
erected on ground donated by the Chevy Chase Land Com-
pany in Block 37 of Section 2 aforesaid, a building for a
library, postoffice and other public purposes, at a cost, includ-
ing additions thereto, of about $11, 000, upon which property
there is now a mortgage encumbrance of $6, 500. 00; and

WHEREAS, There is in said Block 37 a small area of unim-
proved real estate not now owned by said Chevy Chase Asso-
ciation, but which might conveniently be used in connection
with said building; and

WHEREAS, By authority of said Act aforesaid, the govern-
ment and control of said village was committed to the voters,
of said taxing area, through a committee of seven voters and
taxpayers, selected by them in public assembly, as in said Act
provided, to be known as the "Chevy Chase Citizens' Commit-
tee"; and

WHEREAS, A goodly number of the members of said Chevy
Chase Association have expressed a desire to sell and relin-
quish their right, title and equity of said Association in and
to said property, to the Chevy Chase Citizens' Committee, to
be managed and controlled by said committee for the common
or public purposes aforesaid;

Therefore—

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
whenever said Chevy Chase Association shall determine to sell
and relinquish whatever right, title and equity it may have in
and to said property, to said Chevy Chase Citizens' Committee,
authority be and hereby is given to said Chevy Chase Citizens'
Committee to purchase the same, and take title thereto and
manage said property for the common benefit of the citizens of
the taxing area described in the Act approved April 16, 1914,
and to assume and pay, as the full consideration price therefor,
in installments or otherwise, as they may agree, whatever mort-
gage encumbrance may then remain thereon unpaid. And au-
thority is also hereby given to said Chevy Chase Citizens' Com-
mittee to purchase for such price as may be agreed upon between
the owner of said property and said committee, the balance of
the real estate in said Block 37 aforesaid.

And for the money with which to make payments therefor,
the Board of Commissioners of Montgomery County be and
