CHAPTER 69.
AN ACT to authorize the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Balti-
more County to transcribe certain land indexes and mort-
gage indexes, and to provide for the payment thereof.
WHEREAS, The land and mortgage indexes in the office of
the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Baltimore County made
since December 31st, in the year 1904, are in need of tran-
scribing for the purpose of having them conform to the Gen-
eral Land and Mortgage Indexes in the office of the Clerk of
the Circuit Court for Baltimore County prior to January 1st
in the year 1905; therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Baltimore
County, under the supervision of the judges of said Court, be
and he is hereby authorized and required to make or have made
transcripts of the land indexes and mortgage indexes in his
office containing entries from January 1st in the year 1905,
to December 31st, in the year 1914, inclusive of both dates,
in conformity with the General Land and Mortgage Indexes in
said office in such manner as to conform to the requirements
of Sections 55 and 56 of Chapter 495, Acts of 1908, of the
General Assembly of Maryland.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the expense incurred by
making of said transcripts which shall not exceed the legal
rate for such work shall be paid out of the surplus revenue
of the said Clerk of the Circuit Court for Baltimore County.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
from the first day of June, 1916.

CHAPTER 70.
AN ACT to authorize and empower the Mayor and Council of
Hagerstown to provide by special or general ordinance re-
quiring all abutting owners on any street or highway of
Hagerstown or any portion thereof, to pay as therein set
forth a certain portion of the costs of installing a system of
lighting said streets and highways or portion thereof with
electricity in the manner and method commonly known as
