tions 677 to 727, inclusive, of Article 27, of the Annotated
Code of Maryland, title "Crimes and Punishments, " sub-
title "III. Places of Reformation and Punishment, " sub-
head "State Penitentiary" and all Sections under said sub-
head "State Penitentiary" as the same now stand; and, in
lieu of said sub-heads, "House of Correction" and "State
Penitentiary, " and of all Sections under each of said sub-
heads, to enact thirty-five new Sections under a new sub-
head "The State Board of Prison Control, " to follow imme-
diately after Section 622 of Article 27 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland, title "Crimes and Punishments, " sub-
title "III.. Places of Reformation and Punishment, " and
to. be known as Sections 623 to 657, inclusive, the same
being an Act to provide for the appointment, tenure, salaries,
powers and duties of a prison board,. under the name of
"The State Board of Prison Control, " to provide for the
employment, compensation and duties of subordinates to
said Board, to invest said Board with inquisitorial and
visitorial power over Maryland Penitentiary and Maryland
House of Correction, to dissolve and abolish the Directors
of the Maryland Penitentiary and the Board of Managers
of the Maryland House of Correction; to invest the State
Board of Prison Control with possession of all property ap-
pertaining to the Maryland House of Correction and the
Maryland Penitentiary, and with full power, authority and
responsibility to manage and control said institutions; to
provide administrative and disciplinary regulations for said
institutions; to provide for Grand Jury visitation thereto,
and to provide for keeping and furnishing the records of
convicted persons; to regulate the sentencing of persons con-
victed of crime, and to make an appropriation of $45, 000
annually for the expenses of the State Board of Prison
Control.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 523 to 539, inclusive, of Article 27 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland, title '' Crimes and Punishments, ''
sub-title "III. Places of Reformation and Punishment, " sub-
head "House of Correction, " and all Sections, under said sub-
head "House of Correction" as the same now stand, be and
the same are hereby repealed; and Sections 623 to 675 inclu-
sive, and Sections 677 to 727, inclusive, of Article 27 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland, title, '' Crimes and Punishments, '*
sub-title "III. Places of Reformation and Punishment, " sub-
