SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect on the first day of January, 1918.

CHAPTER 551.

AN ACT to assent to the Act of "Congress passed at the second
. session of the Sixty-third Congress, known as the Smith
Lever Bill, H. R 7951, approved by the President May 8,
- 1914, entitled "An Act to provide for co-operative agricul-
tural extension work between the agricultural colleges in
the several States receiving the benefits of an Act of Con-
gress, approved July second, eighteen hundred and sixty-two,
and of Acts supplementary thereto, and the United States
Department of Agriculture.

WHEREAS, by an Act of Congress passed at the second ses-
sion of the Sixty-third Congress of the United States, the
Smith Lever Bill, H. R. 7951, approved by the President
May 8, 1914, entitled "An Act to provide for co-operative
agricultural extension work between the agricultural colleges

"in the several States receiving the benefits of an Act of Con-
gress approved July second, eighteen hundred and sixty-two,
and of Acts supplementary thereto and the United States De-
partment of Agriculture; " and whereas, said Act of the second
session of the Sixty-third Congress provides that before funds
as made available under the said Act shall be paid to any

. State, such State shall give its legislative assent to the pur-
poses of said grants; and whereas, the Maryland Agricultural
College is the only institution in Maryland, established under
the provisions of the Act of Congress, approved July Second,
Eighteen Hundred and Sixty-Two, and of the Acts supple-
mentary thereto; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the assent of the State of Maryland be, and the same
is hereby given to the purposes, provisions and requirements of
the grant made by said Act, H. R. No. 7. 951 of the Second Ses-
sion of the Sixty-third Congress, approved by the President
May 8, 1914, and that the Maryland Agricultural College be,
and the same is hereby designated as the institution entitled to
receive the benefits of the said Act and that the Trustees of
the said Maryland Agricultural College be and they are hereby
