642 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

SECTION 3. And be it enacted, That on the second Tuesday
in March after their appointment the Commissioners so ap-
pointed shall meet at Prince Frederick in an office provided
for them by the County Commissioners of Calvert County, and
shall qualify by each taking an oath before the Clerk of the
Circuit Court of said County '' that he will faithfully and dili-
gently and to the best of his ability execute the office of Road
Commissioner of Calvert Countjr," and shall then organize by
electing one of their number to be President and the other to be
Secretary.

SECTION 4. And be it enacted, That the said Road Commis-
sioners shall meet at their office in Prince Frederick on the
second Tuesday in each month in each year to receive and audit
claims for work done or materials provided during the preced-
ing month and to pay for the same upon the presentation and
approval of the proper vouchers therefor, keeping a true and
accurate account of all sums so paid out and the purposes for
which the same may be expended.

SECTION 5. And be it enacted, That the said Road Commis-
sioners shall each receive the sum of three hundred dollars per
annum to be paid by the County Commissioners of Calvert
County.

SECTION 6. And be it enacted, That the said Road Com-
missioners shall have charge and control over all of the public
roads of Calvert County, except the State Roads, and which
said public roads are to be built and repaired under their
supervision and control in such manner and by such means
and methods as may be best suited in their judgment to produce
the best results in the most economical manner, and the said
Road Commissioners shall have charge of all the bridges in the
county, except those on the State Road, and whenever, any
bridges are to be built or repaired at a cost exceeding one hun-
dred ($100) dollars, it shall be the duty of the said Road Com-
missioners to advertise the same and let the same to the lowest
responsible bidder to be built according to plans and specifica-
tions to be furnished by the said Road Commissioners, and the
County Commissioners, shall levy, upon the written order of the
said Road Commissioners, at the next annual levy after the re-
ceipt of the order, for the use of the contractor or contractors
such sum or sums of money as may be required for the building
or repairing of the said bridges as herein above stated, but no
amount so levied shall be paid to any contractor until the Road
