of said Commissioners, and whenever any Sheriff shall retire
from office, having uncollected any costs, fees and charges law-
fully payable to him, his successor shall collect and pay over
the same, and it shall be the duty of the Sheriff to keep in his
office in such books as may be required an official record of the
fees and charges to be collected by him, and those which shall
have been collected, and such books shall remain in his office
after the expiration of his term for the use of his successor.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 382.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 16 of
Article 100 of the Public General Laws, (Bagby's Civil Code),
title "Work-hours of, in Factories," sub-title, "Hours of
Labor for Females," so as to change the compensation therein
provided for the officers thereby authorized to be appointed.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 16 of Article 100 of the Code of Public Gen-
eral Laws, (Bagby's Civil Code), title, "Work-hours of, in
Factories," sub-title, "Hours of Labor for Females," be and the
same is hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
SEC. 16. The Governor shall appoint in the year 1912 and
every fourth year thereafter, in the month of May, an Inspector
and two Assistant Inspectors of Female Labor, who shall be
female citizens of this State of good moral character. The In-
spector shall receive a salary of Twelve Hundred Dollars
($1,200) annually, and each of the Assistant Inspectors a salary
of Nine Hundred Dollars ($900) annually, and they shall be
further paid the actual and necessary expense incurred by them
in the discharge of their duties. They shall hold office for four
years and until their respective successors shall have been ap-
pointed and have qualified, but may be removed by the Gov-
ernor at any time, a specific written statement of his reasons for
such removal being furnished in each case by the Governor to
the person removed. All vacancies in the offices hereby created
shall be immediately filled by the Governor for the remainder
of the unexpired term. The sum of Six Thousand Dollars
($6,000) per annum, or as much thereof as may be needed in
