tion 12 of said Chapter 495 of the Acts of 1898 with amend-
ments so as to read as follows:

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 12 of Chapter 495 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of Maryland of the Session of 1898, entitled, "An
Act to repeal and re-enact with amendments the charter of the
town of Brunswick in Frederick County as said charter was
enacted by Chapter 577 of the Acts of the General Assembly of
Maryland passed at the January Session of 1890 and amended
by Chapter 520 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1894,
and by Chapter 380 of the Acts of the General Assembly of
1896," be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with
amendments so as to read as follows:

SEC. 12. The Mayor by virtue of his office shall preside at
all meetings of the Council; he may debate all questions before
said Council and in case of a tie vote, he shall decide the same,
he shall have the power to veto any order, resolution or ordi-
nance incurring any debt, paying out, or in any way appropri-
ating any money, or which shall in any way whatsoever affect
the interest and welfare of the town of Brunswick; such order,
resolution or ordinance when passed by the Council shall be
sent to the Mayor for his approval; the Mayor may return the
same with his approval or disapproval to the same meeting at
which it was passed, or he may have until the next regular or
special meeting, whichever shall first occur, to return the same;
if returned with his disapproval, it shall not become a law unless
subsequently, at the meeting to which it was returned or the
next regular or special meeting thereafter, it be passed by a
two-thirds vote of the Council; if not returned at all to the
next regular or special meeting of the Council, whichever shall
first occur, it shall become a law notwithstanding the Mayor's
failure to approve; provided, however, that any member of the
Council who is a stockholder in any corporation or an employee
of any corporation, partnership or individual benefited by the
passage of said order, resolution or ordinance shall not be en-
titled to vote in favor of the passage of said order, resolution or
ordinance after the same has been vetoed by the Mayor. The
Council shall chose one of their number Mayor pro tempore
(to serve at the pleasure of the Council until his successor is
elected) who, in the absence of the Mayor, shall be clothed with
all the powers and authority of said Mayor. The Mayor, or in
his absence the Mayor pro tempore, or any four members of the
Council, may call such meetings of the Council, from time to
