1176 LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAPTER 694.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 2 and
Section 3 of the Act of 1811, Chapter 159, passed January
4th, 1812, entitled "An Act for the encouragement of learn-
ing in Cecil County," incorporating "The West Nottingham
Academy in Cecil County," at or near Lower West Notting-
ham Presbyterian Meeting House, for the liberal education
of youth in such sciences and branches of learning as the
trustees and professors thereof shall think useful and ex-
pedient for the benefit and advancement of the institution,
and the promotion of education.

And be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 2 and Section 3 of the Act of 1811, Chapter 159,
be and the same are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, so as to read as follows:

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Board of Trustees of
"The West Nottingham Academy in Cecil County" shall con-
sist of thirteen members, as now constituted, and that at least
three of said members shall be residents of Cecil County, Mary-
land, and the remaining ten shall be residents and citizens of
the United States, and the said trustees, and their successors,
to be elected in the manner hereinafter mentiond, shall be and
they are hereby elected, established and declared to be one com-
munity, corporation and body politic, with perpetual succes-
sion, in deed and in law, to all intents and purposes connected
with said institution of the name and style of "The West Not-
tingham Academy in Cecil County,'' by which name and title,
they, the said trustees and their successors, shall be competent
and capable, in law and in equity, to take hold to themselves
and their successors, for the use of said Academy any estate, in
any messuages, lands and tenements, annuities, goods, chattels,
moneys or effects, by gift, grant, bargain, sale, conveyance, de-
vise or bequest of any person or persons whatsoever, and the
same messuages, lands, tenements and other estate, real or per-
sonal, to farm, let, mortgage or convey, and put out on interest,
for the use of the said Academy, in such manner as they, or a
majority of them, shall seem most beneficial to the institution,
and to receive the rents, issues, profits, income, and interest of
the same, and to apply the emoluments thereof to the proper
use and advancement of the said Academy, and to do any and
all other matters, acts and things not inconsistent with the ob-
jects and purposes of this corporation.
