shall serve in the same district for more than two
weeks in succession.

Wood-Corder

Sec. 5. That if any Wood Corder shall inspect
or cord wood in any other district than that to
which he may be appointed for the time being by
the said Mayor, except in the unavoidable absence
of another Wood Corder from his proper district,
and with the consent of the Mayor, such Wood
Corder so inspecting or cording wood shall forfeit
and pay the sum of two dollars per cord for every
cord of wood so inspected or corded by him, and
so in proportion for any less quantity; the said
penalty to be recovered by suit in the name of the
State of Maryland ; one half for the use of the in-
former, the other half to the State of Maryland.

fire-wood re-
quired, &c.

Sec. 6. That all fire-wood brought by water or
railroad to the city of Baltimore for sale, shall be
set up, packed and corded under the direction of
one of the Inspectors or Wood Corders appointed
under this act, and if either the purchaser or
seller shall refuse to have said wood so inspected
and corded, or after the same has been inspected
and corded, shall alter the measurement thereof,
or sell the same by any other measurement, or if
any person or persons shall knowingly purchase
or receive any fire-wood brought by water or rail-
road to the city of Baltimore, which has not been
corded, inspected and passed by one of the Cor-
ders or Inspectors aforesaid, shall forfeit and pay
two dollars per cord, and so in proportion for any
less quantity of wood so sold and delivered, or
purchased, by him or them, to be recovered in the
name of the State, one half for the use of the in-
former, the other half for the benefit of the State,
before a justice of the peace in the same manner as
small debts are now recoverable by law.

Eligibility of
Inspectors.

Sec. 7. No person engaged in vending or trad-
ing in wood, or as a partner, as clerk or agent
for a trader or vender of wood, shall be appointed
Inspector or Corder, nor shall any Inspector or
Corder while holding his office be so engaged,
directly or indirectly, and the Governor may sum-
marily dismiss or remove from office such Inspec-
tor or Corder on receiving satisfactory proof of a
violation on his part of the provisions of this act.

Sec. 8. Any person not duly apppointed accord-
