CHAPTER 74.

 

AN ACT to provide for re-copying, re-binding and
re-indexing the records in the office of the
Clerk of the; Court of Common Pleas for Balti-
more city, and to make and keep a general in-
dex to the judgments of the said Court of Com-
mon Pleas.

11, 1864.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the'Clerk of the Court of
Common Pleas for Baltimore city be and he is
hereby authorized and directed to have re-copied,
re-bound and re-indexed such of the records in his
office as the Judge of said Court, upon examina-
tion, shall decide require to be so re-bound and
re-indexed.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said
Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas fpr Baltimore
city be and he is hereby authorized and directed
to procure a book or books suitable for a general
index to judgments which have been entered upon
the records of his office since the first day of De-
cember, in the year eighteen hundred and fifty-
two; and hereafter keep a general index to the
judgments of the said Court of Common Pleas,
which general index shall be made and kept in the
names both of the plaintiffs and defendants.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That a sum
necessary to pay for the work required to be done,
not exceeding the sum of fifteen hundred dollars,
shall be levied on the assessable property of Balti-
more city, to be collected as other city charges are
collected, and the Clerk of said Court shall draw
upon the City Register, as said work progresses,
for such sums as may be necessary to defray the

expense of said book; provided, that he shall com-
plete the entire work, at an expense not exceeding
said sum of fifteen hundred dollars, and all drafts
drawn for payment of said work shall be counter-
signed as correct by the Judge of said Court.

Proviso.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.
