CHAPTER 55.

AN ACT to authorize the repair or rebuilding of
the County Jail of Prince George's county.

Passed, Jan
25, 1864.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That as soon as may be practicable
after the passage of this act, the County Commis-
sionerr of Prince George's county shall appoint
five discreet persons, citizens of said county, who
shall serve as a building committee for the purpose
of causing the repair or rebuilding of the county
jail of said county, as may be determined on under
the provisions of this act.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the
duty of said building committee, or a majority of
them, immediately after their appointment, to
make proposals for, and receive and consider plans
and bids for the repair, alteration or rebuilding of
said jail, so as to render the same safe and conve-
nient for the secure custody of prisoners, and they
shall select and agree upon some one of such plans,
and shall accept some one of the bids or contracts
offered to them in pursuance of their invitation as
aforesaid, and the result of their said decision they
shall report to the County Commissioners afore-
said, together with all other bids, offers, or plans
submitted to, them; and the said building commit-
tee shall have full power to arrange all necessary
details as to the manner of inviting said bids and

accepting said contract or plan; provided, how-
ever, that no plan or contract so as aforesaid ac-
cepted by them shall be binding or operative until
approved by said County Commissioners.

Proviso.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That upon the ratifi-
cation or approval of the said County Commis-
sioners, of any plan and contract recommended by
said building committee as aforesaid, the said laat
named committee shall proceed to close such con-
tract and to cause the contractors to enter into a
bond to the State of Maryland for the faithful per-
formance of their contract, in the penalty of ten
thousand dollars, with sureties resident in said
county, which said bond shall be filed and record-
ed in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court
