AN ACT to refund Samuel T. Stonestreet, late
Clerk of County Court of Montgomery county, a
sum of money erroneously paid by him into
Treasury.
|

WHEREAS, It appears to the General Assembly
of Maryland, that Samuel T. Stonestreet, late
Clerk of the County Court of Montgomery county,
paid into the Treasury in the year eighteen hun-
dred and fifty-one, as tax on his office, as provided
by act of eighteen, hundred and. forty-six, chapter
two hundred and fifty-three, the sum of one hun-
dred dollars, and it also appears to the General
Assembly that by the fortieth section of the third
Article, and the first section, of the tentb Article
of the Constitution, it was the intention of the
framers of that instrument to provide a new mode
and abolish the old method of raising a revenue
from said offices, and that the party aforesaid has,
under a misapprehension, paid into the Treasury
the said sum of money, and it being right and just
that the balance due him should be refunded ;

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Treasurer, upon the war-
lant of the Comptroller, pay to Samuel T. Stone-
street, late Clerk as aforesaid, the sum of eighty-
one dollars and thirteen cents.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.
