AN ACT to authorize the County Commissioners
for Somerset county to levy a sum of money to
indemnify Samuel Street, of said county, for
the amount which he may pay in consequence
of a judgment recovered against him and othars
in the Circuit Court for Somerset county, by
Henry A . White, of said county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the County Commissioners
for -Somerset county be and they are hereby au-
thorized to inquire into the facts involved in the
case tried in the Circuit Court for said county, at
the October term thereof, in the year eighteen
hundred and sixty-three, in which Henry A.
White was plaintiff, and Samuel Street and others
were defendants, in which a verdict was rendered
in favor of said plaintiff against the said defend-
ants, on which verdict a judgment was rendered
at the January term of said court, in the year
eighteen hundred and sixty-four; and if on said
inquiry the said Commissioners shall be of opin-
ion that the said judgment was in consequence of
any act done, or order made by the said Street, in
the honest and faithful effort to discharge his duty
as one of the Constables of said county, in the at-
tempted arrest of a supposed criminal offender,
that the said Commissioners, or a majority of them,
be and they are hereby authorized to levy upon the
assessable property of said county a sum to be col-
lected and paid to the said Street, sufficient to in-
demnify him for the amount which he shall satisfy
the said Commissioners he may actually/ have paid
in satisfaction of said judgment.
