AN ACT to legalize, ratify and confirm the ac-
tion of the County Commissioners of Carroll coun-
ty, in appropriating money for the payment of
bounties to volunteers.

Appropria-
tion ordered.

WHEREAS, the County Commissioners of Carroll
county, on the ninth day of August, eighteen hun-
dred and sixty-two, ordered an appropriation of
fifty dollars to be paid upon the faith of the county
to each person who may or have volunteered in
Carroll county, and have been or may be mustered
into the service of the United States as part of
Maryland's quota of four regiments under the late
call of the President for three hundred thousand
volunteers.

Been paid.

And WHERAS, on said order the sum of sixteen
thousand three hundred and fifty dollars, have
been paid to volunteers mustered into the service
of the United States. Therefore :

To be paid.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the action of the County Com-
missioners of Carroll county, in appropriating the
sum of fifty dollars, be paid to each person who
volunteered in Carroll county, and was mustered
into the service of the United States as part of
Maryland's quota of four regiments under the call
of the President for three hundred thousand volun-
teers, be and the same is hereby legalized, ratified
and confirmed to as full extent as if the said Coun-
ty Commissioners had been previously authorized
by law to make said appropriation.

To borrow
on credit.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the County
Commissioners of Carroll county, be and are here-
by authorized and empowered by virtue of this act
to borrow on the credit of said county, by the issue
of county certificates of debt or otherwise, the sum
of sixteen thousand three hundred and fifty dol-
lars, which said sum of money shall be repaid by
said County Commissioners, by such a gradual
annual levy therefor upon the assessable property
of said county at the time of making their annual
