LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Treasurer of this State, by the Susquehanna and
Tide Water Canal Companies, on or before the
first day of July next, of all arrearages of interest,
exchange and expenses, computed to the first day
of January last, due to the State from said com-
panies, the said Treasurer is hereby authorized to
renew the bonds of the said companies due to the
State for twenty years, from said first day of
January last, bearing interest at six per cent, per
annum, payable semi-annually, and payable as to
principal and interest in current money of the
United States.

Legal pro-
ceedings may
be taken.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That if the said com-
panies shall fall in arrear in the payment of the
interest to fall due on said extended bonds for a
period of six months, after the same shall have
accrued, then the Board of Public Works are
hereby authorized to take legal proceedings against
said companies for the collection of the same, if
they shall think it for the interest of the State so
to do.

In force.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to authorize the State's Attorneys for
Carroll and Frederick county, to institute pro-
ceedings to forfeit the charter of the President,
Directors and Managers of the Westminster
and Taneytown Turnpike Company...

Preamble.

WHEREAS, it has been represented to the Gen-
eral Assembly by the memorial of many citizens of
the State that the charter or franchises of the
Westminster and Taneytown Turnpike Company
hath been forfeited by the willful and long con-
tinued neglect of the said President, Directors
and Managers to keep their said road or parts
thereof in such good repair as is required by the
