CHAPTER 94.

 

AN ACT to assist Simon J. Martenet, in the com-
pletion and publication of his Map of Mary-
land.

Passed March
16, 1865.

WHEREAS, Simon J. Martenet, has made appli-
cation to this General Assembly for assistance to
aid him in completing and publishing his Map of
Maryland; and whereas, the undertaking is highly
meritorious, and if executed in accordance with
his description, as contained in his published ap-
peal to the Legislature, will be of great value to
the State; therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the sum of three thousand
dollars, be and same is hereby appropriated, to
be paid to the said Simon J. Martenet, upon
the conditions and in the manner hereinafter
described.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Marte-
net, on the completion and, publication of his Map
of Maryland, in two editions as proposed in his
published description, to be plotted on muslin, six
feet by five, and the other in portable Atlas form
and plotted on the same scale, shall exhibit the
same to the State Superintendent of Public In-
struction for his inspection and examination.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That it be and is
hereby made the duty of said Superintendent of
Public Instruction to carefully examine and com-
pare the same with the description of his map, as
contained in his published appeal to the Legisla-
ture, (a copy of which is hereby directed to be fur-
nished by the Secretary of the Senate to said
Superintendent,) and if on said examination and
comparison, he, the said Superintendent, shall be
satisfied that said map has been completed and
published in manner and style as therein proposed
and set forth, he shall furnish said Martenet a
certificate to that effect.
