may think proper, the same not being contra-
ry to law; and in case a vacancy shall happen in
the Presidency or Directory of said corporation the
stockholders after ten days notice by advertisement
in two daily papers published in the city of Balti-
more, at a special meeting to be held for that pur-
pose, shall fill the same by choosing a President
or Director to serve until the next election; and for
the transaction of any business hereby confided to
the said President and Directors, a majority of
them shall be a quorum.

Banking pri-
vileges prohib-

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That nothing in this
act contained shall be so construed as to confer
any banking privileges on the said corporation, or
the right to issue any note in the nature of a bank
note, and the General Assembly hereby reserves to
itself the right to alter, amend or repeal this act at
pleasure.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to authorize the Baltimore and Ohio
Rail Road Company to build a railroad from a
point on the line of its road, within the State of
Maryland, between Knoxville and the Monocacy
Junction, through Frederick and Motgomery
counties, to the boundary of the District of Co-
lumbia, so as to make a direct connection with
the city of Washington.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Baltimore and Ohio Rail
Road Company, be and is hereby authorized and
invested with all the rights and powers necessary
to the construction and repair of a railroad from
some suitable point on the line of its railroad be-
tween Knoxville and the Monocacy Junction, to
such point on the boundary line of the District of
