REV. E. W. S. THOMAS.

R. W. S. Thomas, minister, preacher, educator, church builder and
financier, received his education by private instructors, also was
trained in the Moravian schools in Antiqua and Basseterre, B. W. I.
He studied pharmacy at the Colonial Dispensary and was assistant
pharmacist of said institution for several years. He later graduated
from Shaw University, N. C., and joined the North Carolina Confer-
ence of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and was its secretary for
four years. He was appointed professor of sciences in Bennett Col-
lege, Greensboro, N. C., afterwards disciplinary teacher of English
and acting president of Cookman Institute, Jacksonville, Fla., for
four years, and principal of Haven Academy. He has held important
charges in the North Carolina and Washington Conferences. He was
transferred to the Washington Conference eight years ago. He was
District Superintendent of the Cumberland District three years, and
is now pastor of the great Metropolitan Methodist Episcopal Church,
the largest membership and congregation in the Washington Con-
ference.
